Research Report: The State of Innovation in the Inland Empire

Partners: Center for Social Innovation, UCR

Blended Impact partnered with UCR’s Center for Social Innovation on the first comprehensive report of the region’s innovation ecosystem. The report analyzed the history of Riverside and San Bernardino counties, key emerging industries, and a comprehensive directory of innovation-focused initiatives and incubators/accelerators.

Blended Impact performed Crunchbase analysis covering all for-profit entities tagged in the Inland Empire hub producing a companion guide covering major funding events and trends, geomapping industry clusters, and other key data used in the report.

The findings of the report were released on a webinar with commentary from leaders at the Milken Institute, the Alliance for SoCal Innovation, the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation, the Western Riverside Council of Governments, and more.

Since then, additional data supplements have been released to further highlight and catalyze the ecosystem.

Our research team consists of Ph.D. researchers at top universities both in the U.S. and abroad specializing in data analysis, management consulting, economic policy, and the climate landscape to name a few. We augment this team with private sector interviews with investors, businesses, and project sponsors to create a robust view of the ecosystem.

We have developed proprietary research and reporting around emerging innovation ecosystems utilizing a combination of private and public sources. This information quantifies inputs from the educational systems, local government, incubators, industry, and more to quantify the economic impact of startups in growing ecosystems.

We have also developed proprietary research and reporting for local government specific to the Opportunity Zones incentive to track adoption and the potential economic impact.
